Criss Cross, encore

I’ve added a cowl pattern to my Criss Cross Accessories Collection.

This is in Knitted Wit’s new Shimmer Worsted yarn. It’s 80/20 Targhee and silk. The wool is all sourced and processed in the USA. It’s bouncy, slightly rustic, and a pleasure to knit with. This color is called Kiss and Teal. Fun!

Knitted Wit’s Shimmer comes in DK weight, too. I think I showed you my Pointer Mitts I knit with Liberally Bleeding Heart.

Both of these are going to TNNA for Sample It and Cash and Carry through Knitted Wit. They’re great yarns.

This version of my Sophie’s Rose in Knitted Wit’s Single Fingering (Enchanted Forest and Salted Caramel) is going as a display model. (Thank you, Cindy, for knitting! It blocked like a dream.)

And I have one more new design, in Knitted Wit’s Shine, but that’s not ready to show you until tomorrow, maybe. It’s very lovely. So lovely, I’m knitting another version for me, with beads. Racing to see if I can get it finished! Halfway there and counting…

Like Savoire Faire

I’m everywhere! (Who knows/remembers this cartoon?) I’m feeling a little scattered, and focused at the same time. A lot of knit-related stuff going on this month!

Last Saturday, I did an all day workshop for the Tigard Knitting Guild. What a fun bunch of knitters! We did slip stitch mosaic knitting: The basic how to, first flat and then in the round, with several patterns to try. In the afternoon, students designed and started either hats or cowls with this technique.

Ha! Those pattern samples were secret gauge swatches! They’d be more accurate over a larger number of stitches, but it was a good starting point. Everyone started on their designs, which I hope to someday see finished and out in the wild.

Tomorrow I’m teaching in Salem at Tangled Purls. Blocking in the morning, stranded colorwork in the afternoon, a trunk show all day, and a meet and greet between classes.

I have a new design, Summertime Blues, that I just finished knitting; it’s off to the test knitter and tech editor. I used Knitted Wit’s Shine, a 50/50 merino tencel blend that I’ve knit and loved before. It has great drape and luster. Photos next week; my model is as busy as I am!

I’m getting ready for the TNNA trade show in Columbus at the end of the month; I’ll have some designs featuring Knitted Wit’s yarns in the Knitted Wit booth (including Summertime Blues, when I’m not wearing it). Cindy (@blackmoondog) knit this version of Sophie’s Rose for us, and I blocked it yesterday.

I’m closing in on the last set of criss crosses on my KAL Tilt Shift. This was on the back burner while I finished Summertime Blues, but I’m back on it now. I’d love to get this finished and blocked today so I can wear it this weekend, but it’s all weather dependent. Yesterday was a glorious blocking day, sunny and warm. Fingers crossed!

Sophie’s Rose pattern re-release, happy new year!

Happy new year!

The pattern for Sophie’s Rose is now available through PDXKnitterati! (See bottom of post for launch sale info.) This is an asymmetric triangle, knit from the small point to the sweeping ruffle.

I designed this for Anne Lindquist at For Yarn’s Sake, using two very special yarns. The main color is Sophie’s Rose, the semisolid brown with raspberry pink accents. MadelineTosh dyed this custom color in honor of Anne’s new granddaughter, Sophie.

The coordinating color is Knitted Wit‘s Madge, on her Merino Single Fingering base. The theme is a garden trellis interspersed with rows of roses.

The big ruffle makes it really fun to wear. I wore it to Madrona last year, and lots more since then.

If you want a kick start with this project, I’m teaching a Sophie’s Rose class on Saturday February 7 at 10 a.m. at Twisted in Portland. We’ll go through the trellis stitch and the rose rows, and also talk about the ruffle. I taught this class at For Yarn’s Sake last year, too. The instructions for these stitches are in the pattern, but sometimes it’s more fun (and easier to visualize) in person,

Happy new year! Are you casting on something new today, or trying to finish up last year’s project? Either way, I hope you have a chance to get some knitting in today. There are serveral cast on parties around town; I know Twisted is having one at noon, and Lorajean is having one at the Knitted Wit studio from 11 to 2. Being the contrarian that I am, rather than casting on I think I’ll try to finish my Honey Cardigan. Apparently I set it aside last year when the weather changed, but the body is done and it just needs sleeves and finishing. I could use a new sweater about now. It’s cold out!

Well, I haven’t been to Paris recently, but Sophie’s Rose has! I taught a Sophie’s Rose class last month at For Yarn’s Sake, and Theresa was in my class. From there she headed to Paris, and took her project with her. Here are some pictures she sent me…

I went traveling last week, but not that far afield. A friend and I met up in Edmonds, Washington for a quick overnight visit with another friend. We spent some time at Sky Nursery, which is the most lovely huge place. I love hydrangeas, and this one was calling my name, loudly. More on that in a bit.

We spent happy hour down by the waterfront, watching the ferries come and go. We had a great time laughing and catching up.

Oh, the hydrangea. I didn’t buy it, and then saw another lovely one this week.

This picture doesn’t do it justice. It has white outer blooms, and small inner blooms that turn yellow as they age. (This one’s called Golden Crane, and was developed from seeds brought back from China.) I’m thinking I want a hydrangea bed next to the house in the back yard. There’s an ancient blue one there already. It needs friends! And not this poor abandoned toe-up sock project from 2008…

I just finished knitting the first version of a fall/winter design for September, and I still need to finish the fuchsia colored summery Bling project, too. No idle hands here! What are you knitting this week? Does the change of seasons make you change your knitting?

Sophie’s Rose shawl, as seen at Madrona

Introducing Sophie’s Rose, an asymmetric triangle shawl with an extravagant ruffle.

I designed this for Anne Lindquist at For Yarn’s Sake, using two very special yarns.
