Pointer Mitts and Cap or Beret

Pointer Mitts and Cap or Beret: This mitt and hat set features a charming loop stitch that looks like a cable, but isn’t! The graduated columns of loop stitch on the mitts echo your pointing fingers. Your choice of cap or beret features a sideways knit band of loop stitches; the body of the hat is picked up along the edge of the band.

The pattern uses approximately 330 yards/4 oz/114 g of DK weight yarn. I used Knitted Wit DK, 85% Polwarth Wool, 15% Tussah Silk. (approx 50 g/150 yards for mitts, 62 g/180 yards for hat) Gauge is 6 st/inch in stockinette stitch for mitts, 5 st/in for hat; I used a US size 3 needle for mitts, size 5 for hat.

Charts and line by line instructions for loop stitch detail are included.

This pattern was designed for the {Among Friends} Yarn Club with Sincere Sheep and Knitted Wit. It is available as a pdf file through Ravelry.com; pay is through PayPal and it’s an automatic download. Just click the ”buy now” button and you’ll be guided through the process.

  4. Hi Michelle – how many yards needed for the mitts only – it looks like 330 yds for hat and mitts unless I’m mis-reading. thanks !

    • Hi, Margot! Looks like 50g of that particular yarn for the mitts, which maths out to 144 yards. So to be safe, 150 yards for mitts, give or take a few. 62g or 180 yards for the hat, approximately. Have fun!
