I love teaching knitters to be the boss of their knitting. It’s fun to learn new techniques, and new ways to think about old techniques. I hope you’ll come to one of my classes, and I’d love to come teach at your retreat or speak at your guild meeting.
I’m teaching both in-person at events, and online via Zoom. If you’re a shop owner, we can arrange a class for your shop, too!
My newsletter is the best way to keep track of my classes; I don’t always get this page updated as quickly. Sign up for my newsletter here.

Sheeper Than Therapy Retreat: Fresno, CA, Fall 2016. Log Cabin Blocks, Braided Wristlets, Tilt Shift Wrap, iPhone Photography. Here’s a testimonial from Annie Berg, the organizer:
I just started my 5th PDXKnitterati project (well 7th if you count two of the retreat projects)!
I found Michele through a fellow Guild member who had participated in Michele’s Rose City Yarn Crawl shawl pattern and the had the opportunity to meet Michele during the crawl.
So, I knitted Michele’s Oh La Lace and immediately reached out to Michele to request that she teach at my knitting guild, Sheeper Than Therapy, Fall retreat.
Here are just some of the comments from the attendees:
“Good energy, great organization, definitely taught things you would never learn from just following the directions. Developed a spirit of collaboration.”
“I loved Michele! I liked when she had everyone take a 7th inning stretch! Would like to see her again! She was so patient, very approachable.”
“She was very knowledgeable and had an easy way of explaining techniques.”Personally, Michele is one of the best teachers we’re ever had the opportunity to invite to our retreat. Her knowledge is immense, her presentation flows through all levels of skill, and her patience is immeasurable. One of our attendees had a different method of handling the “left over” stitch at the end of a Log Cabin Block section and not only did Michele take the time to listen to Gisela’s process and thoughts but also used that opportunity to share it with the rest of the group. Michele went on to encourage us to try it and decide what works best for ourselves. I was extremely impressed how Michele took a random moment and turned it into a teaching opportunity.
I’m so in love with Michele’s patterns that I offered to be a test knitter. I have now completed two new patterns for her and I fall more in love with her style each time. I’ve even started a second shawl of one of her new upcoming patterns because; a. I was able to memorize the rhythm of the pattern the first time; b. it’s an incredible pattern for a long gradient yarn; and c. it’s GORGEOUS!
I walked away with more confidence in my knitting, a new friend, and a new slogan, “I am the BOSS of my own knitting!”
Thank you Michele for sharing your time, talents, and creativity with the world.

Student Anna Guillemot wrote this to the Tigard Knitting Guild newsletter:
Saturday was “Braided Wristlets” taught by Michele Bernstein over a period of six hours. For a lover of color, this was a tailor-made class. Michele showed us how to create a lively design using only threecolors! Thanks to a variety of Latvian-inspired braids separated by small Fair Isle bands, a wristwarmer appears, and I defy anyone not to at least smile with joy at its completion. I practically jumped with glee only half way there!!! Michele is an excellent teacher, prompt to come to the rescue of any floundering student. I already knew that from taking a workshop from her last year, partly the reason why I wanted to learn what she had to offer this year.

Hi! Are you going to be offering your steeking class again soon? Dana Williams-Johnson featured steeking in her latest column on MDK. I think it’s time for me to try it out. Thanks!
I am Marcy Fink President of the DE Sussex County Knitting Guild. We are interested in Zoom class for our members in beginners Brioche. I have taken a few of your classes and because of your teaching, I now can do Brioche.
