Merry Knitmas! New holiday knitting patterns

I have a pattern (or two, depending on how you look at it) in the new Knit Picks book, Merry Knitmas.

Aren’t they sweet? It’s a choose your own adventure pattern. I wanted to offer a choice of cuff motifs that looked fairly traditional. Three hanks of Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky can be knit up into two coordinating stockings.

I love how they styled these. Very homespun Americana. I love everything about these stockings. Christmas stockings are great first socks, because big yarn means that they knit up quickly. And you only have to knit one, so there’s no Second Sock Syndrome. The stubby toe on the short leg makes me smile. And you can’t even see where I snipped the yarn, frogged half the leg, and grafted it back together.

I would love to knit three of them. My brother and his two boys (they went through a painful divorce and I’d like to give them a new Christmas tradition to help them move forward)

Cute! I was in Indigo yesterday and they had a bunch of chunky knit stockings… all I could think was how quick they’d knit up!

My two sons are far away, one in Santa Fe and the other in Montreal. I am back in Hawaii and these will make them feel we’re back at our old home in Portland, Oregon.

Love the stockings, they are so sweet! I would knit a stocking for my mom, who taught me (and my sister) to knit and is the only person in our family who doesn’t have a hand knit stocking. She deserves one more than anyone! Her stocking would definitely be in red, white, and black – her favorite color scheme.

Knitting these pattern for family would be a great joy. Reducing the size and making miniature for the tree would be great fun.
