Rose City Yarn Crawl Mystery KAL

The 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl is coming up fast. It’s February 27 – March 2 next year, but the fun starts NOW.

We’re having a mystery knit along (KAL) and crochet along (CAL) before the crawl starts. We? Yes, we! I’m thrilled to let you know that I’m the designer of the 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl Mystery KAL Shawlette. As a native Portlander, I hope you enjoy the very Portland elements that I designed into this piece.

Presales of the shawlette patterns (one knit and one crochet) have begun through Ravelry. You’ll have plenty of time to pick the perfect yarn for your shawlette. Join the chatter in the RCYC group on Ravelry. Knitting begins in January, which is traditionally selfish knitting month after holiday gift knitting!

The shawlette is knit with two colors in fingering weight yarn; I chose to work with two semi-solids. Please come knit along with me; I’m looking forward to knitting along with you!

Want to know more about the yarn crawl? Check out all the details on the Rose City Yarn Crawl page. You can order a tote with this year’s new logo, and sign up for the Yarn Ball, a pre-yarn crawl reception on Wednesday, February 26.

Don’t live in Portland? You can still knit along. I think you’ll love this shawlette. I know I do!

  1. What fun! I have never participated in a KAL and promised myself no new yarn purchases until I work my way through my (considerable stash) … But this is so tempting … 🙂

    • You can always knit yours out of stash; it’s not required to purchase new yarn. We welcome all knitters!

I’ve only run KALs, I haven’t participated in one. And a mystery KAL is a completely new thing for me! I like knowing what I’m knitting. But I can tell you that this one isn’t far-out strange. It’s straightforward and lovely, and I think you’d like it! What a way to become part of the Rose City yarn scene. Welcome to Portland!

  2. I am so in on this–long distance, of course. Time to stash dive–I think I have at least one skein in mind…. 😉
    Looking forward to it!

  3. Hooray! Just purchased it (technical difficulties last night). Dreaming of colors right now. My first knit along and super excited.

  4. A shawlette? Will have to think about it. 12 shawls in 2012 has kind of shawled me out for awhile. Good luck with it!

  5. Do the colors need to be coordinating, or a light and dark, or???

    • I like pop between the two. I used Knitted Wit’s Single Fingering in Silver Lining (gray) and Madge (deep fuchsia). Originally I had a pink chosen, which looked like it coordinated with the gray, but it really needed something that would pop against it.

The upshot is: pick two colors that you’d like if you were using them in narrow stripes, so they don’t get lost in each other, and have fun!
